CONTENT
The current app doesn’t clearly communicate visibility settings or privacy indicators for posts, media, and feedback. The layout and visual design also lack engagement
PROBLEM
I worked closely with team members to identify problems with the current user flows based on user test results
Poor content layout
The page lacks clear structure and priorities, making it hard for users to understand, especially how visibility settings affect media files and feedback
Lack of privacy indicators
Media files may have sensitive information, but there’s no sign they are set to “private.” This can confuse users and risk exposing personal content
Unclear visibility settings
The visibility setting is hidden at the bottom of the page, so users may miss it. Since saving makes the page public, the setting should be easy to find at the top
CHALLENGE
How can I redesign the ‘Save workout’ page so users can share posts, media, and feedback without being confused about privacy settings?
REDESIGN 1
I prioritized the content on the ‘Save workout’ page and then reorganized the layout. The visibility setting was moved to the top so users can easily manage the privacy of their workout posts. I also added a label to media files indicating “only visible to you,” and on the feedback page, I clearly marked that feedback is “only visible to the group admin.
REDESIGN 2
We added a preview button to let users review their post before saving it. This gives them a chance to double-check for any unwanted content and feel more confident before publishing
REDESIGN 3
To help users feel confident and safe about who can view their content, we display the group admin's and group's profile photo and name when users choose their privacy settings
OUTCOME
We released the most urgent and important new features and we will release the remaining new features soon to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before releasing the full new design.
TAKEAWAYS
Redesigning the after-workout pages was an invaluable experience. These pages are complex, with many buttons, settings, and types of content, and I learned how to simplify them by splitting information clearly and removing duplicates. I also collaborated closely with the developer before visualizing designs to ensure feasibility and identify technical limits.
