Strategic MVP Launch

MVP & Crowdfunding

The MVP was launched alongside myVolts’ new product Alchemist as part of its crowdfunding campaign, allowing users to simulate how Alchemist would work with their own music gear using the PMG setup planner. The business goal behind this was to help users fully understand the new product and feel confident backing the campaign

Mapping

Core user flow

Core user flow

For our MVP, our main goal was to help users easily create their setup, add Alchemist, and be seamlessly guided to our crowdfunding campaign. To visualize this journey, we mapped the four core steps and sketched layout ideas for each stage

VALIDATION GOALS

Validate with the MVP

Validate with the MVP

Before launching the MVP, our team defined three key areas to validate. After the campaign, we conducted user research to understand if PMG helped users grasp how myVolts products work with their gear, identify any usability challenges, and gather feature requests. We also measured the conversion rate to see how many users backed the campaign after using the MVP

Product understanding

Does the PMG setup planner help users understand how myVolts products work with their gear?

Conversion impact

What is the conversion rate from PMG usage to crowdfunding support?

Feature demand

Are users interested in a more advanced version of PMG?

CHALLENGE

How can I make an interactive setup planner where users can add their devices, find the right power solution using our new product Alchemist, and be guided to back our Kickstarter campaign?

STEP 1

Add devices to the worktop

Add devices to the worktop

When users click the ‘Add devices’ button, a modal appears on the right. They can search for their device by name, select it, and see it added to the worktop in real time.

STEP 2

Press ‘Power my gear’

Press ‘Power my gear’

After adding their devices, users press the ‘Power my gear’ button to view compatible power solutions. By default, a recommended myVolts power bank is displayed. Additional power details are shown in the menu bar. For the layout, we separated the interface into two main sections: Devices and Power Source. Between them, we placed USB icons representing the power chain. Users can click these icons to view the detailed flow of power through their setup

STEP 3

Add ‘Alchemist’ from the dropdown menu

Add ‘Alchemist’ from the dropdown menu

After pressing the ‘Power my gear’ button, users can access a dropdown menu to view all available power sources. Selecting Alchemist lets them visualize how it integrates into and powers their setup. Additionally, the most suitable power option for their setup is marked with a recommendation icon to guide their selection

STEP 4

Click ‘Back the project’

Click ‘Back the project’

When users click the Alchemist icon on the worktop, a modal opens showing detailed information about the product. A ‘Back the Alchemist' call-to-action button is included, which links directly to the Kickstarter campaign

OUTCOME

104% funded and 24% conversion rate

104% funded and 24% conversion rate

Our project was 104% funded (€103,964), and 24% of backers used the PMG to simulate Alchemist before supporting the campaign. After the campaign, we conducted a user survey about PMG. We received positive feedback along with numerous feature requests, which helped us shape the direction for future versions

TAKEAWAYS

A successful MVP, and the gaps it helped reveal

A successful MVP, and the gaps it helped reveal

A successful MVP, and the gaps it helped reveal

While our MVP launch was successful, product reviews revealed that features like media uploads and comments were rarely used by users. In a post-campaign user survey, we also learned that many users wanted a more mobile-friendly version of the tool.
These insights made it clear that for our next MVP launch, we need to conduct more structured user research and set clearer priorities for features within the team.
