A new way to showcase myVolts products

myVolts & Power my gear

myVolts is an innovative power hardware startup.To support their growing product line, they launched Power My Gear - a tool that lets users add their music gear to a virtual worktop and find the right power solution using myVolts items. Like IKEA’s kitchen planner, it helps users visualize and customize their setup. While it mainly showcases myVolts products, it also aims to foster a synth community.

We did user research with people who signed up for PMG during the MVP launch ↗. About 100 people answered our survey. I analyzed the responses and grouped common needs into five key themes. Based on these insights, our team explored design solutions that also support our business goals

myVolts order list

Users wanted a clear overview of all the myVolts items used in their setup, along with pricing information. They also requested an option to order all the items at once

Customized options

Users were frustrated when they couldn’t find their devices in the search. They wanted to add their own devices and use their own power banks

Mobile-friendly

Many users found PMG cluttered on their phones and wanted a smoother, more mobile-friendly way to build a setup and understand the power solution

Order at once

To address users’ desire to purchase all myVolts items at once, we introduced a unified order list feature. As users build their setup, compatible myVolts products are automatically added to an order list, making it easy to review and purchase everything in one go

The main request for customized options was the ability to add devices that aren't in our database, as well as their own power banks. We decided to first add a feature that lets users add their own devices, and then continue working on support for custom power banks

Mobile-optimized layout

Mobile-optimized layout

For the mobile version, we’ve clearly communicated that “A wider screen is more suitable for creating a setup.” We also redesigned the layout to optimize the mobile experience-placing the power source section at the top and simplifying the interface by prioritizing key features and removing less essential ones

Following the launch of these features, we saw a significant improvement in engagement. The order list feature contributed to a higher checkout conversion rate, and the ability to add custom devices expanded our user base. Positive feedback on the mobile layout also helped us grow an active community of returning users.

After launching our MVP, we received many feature requests. Our team worked hard to prioritize the ones that aligned with both our business goals and user needs. It was challenging to strike the right balance. I worked closely with our PM, going through cycles of analyzing user needs, implementing features, and measuring outcomes. Our vision is to grow the PMG community, where people can create their setups with myVolts products and share them with others.
